About the work

Free Banana! appropriates one of the most discussed symbols of contemporary art: the taped banana.
Here, the gesture is taken up again, simplified and brought back to what it really is: a pop image, direct, almost too obvious — to the point of becoming funny.

The piece plays with the idea of ​​value, reproduction and assumed absurdity: the banana is no longer a manifesto, but a pictogram freed from its own buzz.
His shadow disappears, his tape slips off, and what remains is a clear, graphic, deliberately undramatic form.

Free Banana! questions what we choose to call "art", how a banal object can be transformed into an icon, and how this icon can be replayed, appropriated, almost returned to itself.

"If everything can become art, we might as well smile at it."
